Storytime! Using Narrative to Represent Ourselves, Our Work, and Our Libraries

Many of our earliest memories of libraries are linked to storytime.  Whether we shared the experience with others or enjoyed it in solitude, there was something magical about words brought vividly to life by nothing more than an active imagination.  Even still, stories inform how we view the world and have the power to inform, persuade, and entertain those around us.

Although storytime may not be the traditional province of college and university libraries, narrative plays an essential role in the work we do.  Whether we are interpreting library statistics, pitching an innovative service, teaching a complex skill, or networking with colleagues, our skills as storytellers determine the impact we make.

Join us on April 28, 2017 at Hamilton’s historic Mills Hardware for the Ontario College and University Library Association (OCULA) Spring Conference, as we explore the diverse role of stories within the academic library.
